About Oxford Splash Plus

Oxford Splash Plus is a three-level course for children in Pre-Primary between the ages of 3 and 5. It is a course that is flexible and innovative so that it can suit all your classroom needs and be easily adapted to every timetable scenario. It is also a course that has been developed with great attention to the needs and abilities of children at this age, as well as to the general Objectives for Pre-school Education. Each of the levels is especially tailored to the cognitive abilities and development of the age-group in order to provide a positive and fun experience as English language learners. It offers a wealth of activities and ideas for introducing and practising language as well as a beautifully illustrated range of support materials that we're sure you and your students will love. The syllabus for the course has been developed with the Pre-Primary curriculum in mind, so that it neatly fits into the subject areas and projects that the children will be learning in other classes, making it easy to collaborate with the class tutor and providing a truly globalized approach. The course follows the seasons as the students experience them and integrates the festivals within the relevant units so that the children are learning in English at the same time as they are learning about the world around them. There is thorough use of recycling too, so that each subsequent level revises the language of a previous level, making sure that children constantly have opportunities to revise and build on what they know.

Emphasis is also placed on the learning and practice of communicative language or Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS). This is often an area of language learning that is missing from Pre-Primary English material, but it's very much essential to a child's confidence and enables them to communicate effectively early on in their learning experience. This language is also introduced alongside opportunities to develop Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency (CALP) which introduces the child to terms and concepts about the world around them and ensures they get a balanced range of language. The Plus in Oxford Splash Plus is all about 'projects'. Every unit has an extra 2-3 lessons that work on a topic related to the rest of the unit, often introducing some new language and a simple concept. These topics are typically cross-curricular but also include cultural and personal

development themes appropriate to the age-group. To support these projects there are extra resources (posters and photo-flashcards) to help present the concept, additional songs to practise the language and worksheets so that children consolidate what they learn. These projects make Oxford Splash Plus particularly appropriate for schools with extended timetables or working in bilingual programmes and looking for material to cover 4 or more sessions a week. As well as this, Oxford Splash Plus offers you a range of teaching resources that include some innovative items. For three of the course characters there are puppets, and for the fourth character there is a fabric apron which is used as the flashcard presentation tool. This also means that all the characters are represented in the classroom and can used to demonstrate the communicative language. Along with the puppets, there are beautifully illustrated flashcards of all the vocabulary and large format storycards for presenting the stories. All the resources are colourful and in a format that will capture the children's imagination and allow for lots of language exploitation.

The digital resources are fully-integrated within the methodology too. There are games and activities on the Interactive Whiteboard Resources that allow you to make the most of your whiteboard for vocabulary practice and also for retelling the stories and singing the songs. The Teacher's Resource CD-ROM contains printable material such as supplementary worksheets for further practice on the main language, templates for making your own routine clock and character masks, as well as evaluation and Portfolio material. There is also a Phonics Multi-ROM, for those that want to practise early reading skills. It includes carefully guided session notes on introducing a simple sequence of sounds and lots of printable resources. Finally in the range of digital components, there is a DVD packed full of material to entertain and motivate your class. The stories are all animated along with the main unit vocabulary songs, plus there are live-action versions of the communicative songs for your children to join in with actions, as well as clips to support the projects.
